Recently, the Chinese Geriatric Society received an official letter from the World Health Organization, saying that the Chinese Geriatric Society won the 2024 World Health Organization "Geriatric Health Care and Health Promotion Research Award", and solemnly invited President Fan Li of the society to attend the award ceremony to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in May 2024.

It is reported that the award was established in 2003 by the World Health Organization (WHO), with financial support from the Government of Kuwait, with the aim of rewarding individuals, institutions or non-governmental organizations that have made outstanding contributions to research on health care and health promotion of the elderly, and is recommended by qualified applicants selected by the member countries of WHO in accordance with relevant regulations. China Geriatrics Society, as a non-governmental academic organization, was selected by the National Health Commission and recommended as the unit to participate in the award. The award was awarded after a four-month jury review.

Adhering to the purpose of "developing geriatric medicine and serving the health of the elderly", the Chinese Geriatric Society has formulated and issued more than 100 consensus and guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases, with geriatric research and academic exchanges as the main line, comprehensive prevention and treatment of geriatric diseases, rehabilitation and combination of medical care as the starting point, and innovation and transformation of scientific and technological achievements in geriatric medicine as the support. Issued and implemented 33 group standards for the elderly, participated in 2 industry standards and 1 national standard; Established a geriatric and nursing training network, covering 56 geriatric training network units, covering 25 provinces (municipalities) autonomous regions; Formulated the "Elderly Friendly Service Code" group standards, and completed the acceptance of 52 medical institutions; It has carried out theoretical research and practical exploration on the combination of medical and nursing care, summed up a set of models, standards, methods and experience of the combination of medical and nursing care, and cultivated a number of research and practice projects, providing an important basis for the country to establish a model of the combination of medical and nursing care, and played a positive role in maintaining the health of the elderly.

The World Health Organization awarded the award to the Chinese Geriatric Society, which not only fully affirmed the outstanding contribution made by China in actively coping with the aging population, but also affirmed that the Chinese Geriatric Society, under the guidance of the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, has promoted academic research and scientific and technological innovation in geriatric medicine, and promoted and applied advanced geriatric medical and health technologies.
