With the coming of China's aging society, the problems of chronic diseases, comorbidity, weakness and disability of the elderly are increasingly prominent. In order to achieve the national strategic goal of Healthy China 2030, prevent and control disability and dementia, and enhance the active health ability of the elderly, China needs to strengthen active intervention and management of the health of the elderly group. Frailty is a kind of clinical syndrome accompanied with aging, and its damage to the body cannot be ignored. As a common chronic disease in the elderly, hypertension will not only lead to the decline of physical and cognitive function, but also increase the risk of falls, cause multiple medication and other problems, resulting in an increased incidence of frailty. In recent years, the relationship between hypertension and frailty has become one of the hotspots of geriatric research.

To this end, on the morning of April 21, 2024, the Chinese Geriatric Society and the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (PLA General Hospital) jointly held a series of workshops on online clinical diagnosis, treatment and research progress of geriatric comorbidity combined with Geriatric syndrome (1) "Workshop on Hypertension, frailness and Cognitive Impairment". The aim is to explore the continuous health services of hypertension, frailty and cognitive impairment from the international perspective of geriatric medicine, and improve the professional level of the backbone of geriatric medicine. The meeting invited Professor Fan Li, President of the Chinese Geriatric Society and honorary director of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (PLA General Hospital), and many experts from the Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, Beijing Tiantan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, Peking University People's Hospital and Sichuan University West China Hospital to make wonderful sharing. More than 6,000 geriatrics workers watched it online. The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Hu Yixin, director of the International Exchange Working Committee of the Chinese Geriatric Society and deputy director of the Operation Office of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (PLA General Hospital).

Professor Fan Li, president of the Chinese Geriatric Society and honorary director of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (PLA General Hospital), gave an in-depth interpretation of the guidelines on hypertension management, focusing on the updated content of the guidelines, hypertension management strategies, antihypertensive treatment for specific elderly groups, community support and remote services.

Professor Hua Qi, President of the Hypertension Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society and Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, explained in depth the relationship between hypertension and cognitive impairment in the elderly, including the definition, classification and characteristics of cognitive impairment, as well as the special types of hypertension, blood pressure rhythm and cognitive impairment, frailty and cognitive impairment. He also elaborated on the blood pressure management of hypertension combined with cognitive impairment, the principles of screening and evaluation of cognitive impairment.

Professor Jia Jianjun, President of the Cognitive Disorders Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society and the Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, introduced the assessment methods of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly, emphasized the importance of the clinical dementia assessment scale, and summarized the published expert consensus and group standards to promote the study, practice and promotion of clinical dementia assessment.

Professor Cao Jian, deputy director General of the Hypertension Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society and the Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, introduced the hypertension control situation and 24-hour blood pressure control in China from the concept of high-quality blood pressure management, providing a new perspective and ideas for hypertension management.

Professor Xu Jun, Vice President of Cognitive Disorders Branch of Chinese Geriatric Society and affiliated to Beijing Tiantan Hospital of Capital Medical University, introduced the intervention technology and clinical research progress of cognitive disorders, including the application of nanotechnology in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and the four-level prevention strategy, and summarized the importance of special medical food and nutrition management. It provides a new scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of senile cognitive impairment.

Associate Professor Hu Yixin, Director of the International Exchange Working Committee of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and the Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, discussed the concept of frailty, assessment methods and the relationship with hypertension, introduced the research on the indicators of frailty assessment in hypertension research, and stressed the importance of personalized blood pressure lowering strategy and comprehensive assessment of the elderly. The objective of healthy aging and the strategies of community management are put forward.

Professor Wang Hongyi of Peking University People's Hospital discussed the treatment goals and all-weather blood pressure control strategies for elderly hypertension, provided comprehensive guidance and suggestions for hypertension management, and advocated experts and scholars to determine personalized treatment plans for elderly hypertension through ambulate blood pressure monitoring.

Professor Yue Jirong from West China Hospital of Sichuan University explained the risk and prevention of delirium in the elderly, introduced the management model, diagnosis method and prevention strategy of delirium, and provided an important reference for the health of the elderly population.

Professor Hua Qi and Director Ma Qingfeng from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University and Professor Xu Jun from Beijing Tiantan Hospital made excellent comments. Through in-depth discussions and exchanges, the experts at the meeting struck a new spark on the future clinical research and scientific research direction of hypertension combined with cognitive impairment and weakness, and reached a lot of consensus.
