The Chinese Society of Geriatrics is a national social organization approved and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China. In October 2025, it was transferred to the management of the China Association on Aging. It is an academic organization voluntarily formed by experts, scholars and people from all walks of life engaged in geriatric medicine and related fields in China. It is an innovative development platform covering the whole country to promote geriatric medicine research and elderly health services.

The society was initiated by Professor Zhang Liping and 15 other geriatric medicine experts. Its founding conference was held in Beijing on April 19, 2015, during which the first council was elected, with Professor Fan Li serving as the president. The second member representative conference was held on October 30, 2020. Professor Fan Li was re-elected as the president and Academician Fu Xiaobing was appointed as the honorary president.

After ten years of development, a complete organizational structure has been formed, with the establishment of a Party branch, an expert committee, five functional departments and five professional working committees, and 58 branches have been developed. In collaboration with the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army), a total of 70 training network units have been jointly established across the country. It has gathered over 1,500 renowned experts from various professional fields across the country and 19,214 expert members. They are actively working in different parts of the country, forming a backbone force in geriatrics that is influential, inspiring and cohesive.

Learn to adhere to the guidance of the policies of the Party and the state, closely focus on the Healthy China strategy, integrate the positive view of aging and the concept of healthy aging into the practice of construction and development, establish the tenet of "developing geriatric medicine and serving the health of the elderly";, follow the concept of "establishing the association through academic research, strengthening the association through education, building the association through innovation, invigorating the association through service, and running the association in accordance with the law";, and follow the association motto of "Adhering to the way and respecting medicine, maintaining a healthy life"; Guided by the demand for elderly health services, with geriatric medical research and academic exchanges as the main line, supported by the transformation of innovative achievements and domestic and international cooperation, and taking the construction of standard systems and talent cultivation as the key points, we are committed to exploring research and promoting work in the areas of all-round and full-cycle elderly care, preventive health care, diagnosis and treatment of comorbidities, comprehensive rescue, rehabilitation care, palliative care, and smart medical and elderly care. Undertaking the national "Elderly Hearing Health Promotion Action (2024-2027)"; demonstration project entrusted by the National Health Commission, it was rated as an advanced grassroots Party organization and a 4A-level social organization by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and won the World Health Organization's 2024 "Research Award for Elderly Health Care and Health Promotion";. In 2025, it was awarded the title of "National Advanced Social Organization" by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China.
