On July 7, 2023, the "Ninth Chinese Geriatric Medicine and Technology Innovation Conference of Chinese Geriatric Society and Geriatric Critical Medicine Theory"; hosted by the Critical Care Medicine Branch of Chinese Geriatric Society was successfully held in Fuzhou. Professor Fan Li, President of the Chinese Geriatric Society, Xu Xiaodong, Vice President and Secretary General, Professor Yan Jing, Vice President and President of the Critical Care Medicine Branch, Zhao Jianxin, deputy Secretary General and nearly 300 experts and scholars from all over the country attended the meeting.

Professor Fan Li, President of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, delivered a speech and attended the consensus conference. He congratulated the newly elected president, vice president and members, highly praised the work of the Critical Care Medicine Branch in academic exchange, personnel training, business guidance, clinical research and expert consensus, and put forward high hopes for the development of the branch. We hope to continue to give full play to our professional advantages, work together, innovate and forge ahead, further improve the overall level of geriatric critical care medicine in China, and promote the development of geriatric medicine and geriatric health.

The meeting began with the second committee election of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society. Xu Xiaodong, vice president and Secretary general of the Chinese Geriatric Society, read the approval of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society. Professor Yan Jing, Chairman of the first Committee of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society, reported on the preparatory work of the transition. Zhao Inheritance, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Geriatric Society, read out the "Report on the examination of the qualifications of members" and the election methods.

The General election conference of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society elected the second committee and the leading team in accordance with the regulations of the Chinese Geriatric Society. Professor Yan Jing was elected as the Chairman of the second Committee of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society, and 10 professors including CAI Guolong, Gao Yuan, Ma Xiaochun, Qin Bingyu, Qin Tiehe, Wang Xiaoting, Yuan Shiying, Zhang Xijing, Zhou Fachun and Zhou Feihu were elected as vice chairmen. The second Committee of the Critical Care Medicine Branch continued to expand the membership size, with a total of 291 members, including 75 standing members. The meeting hall broke into warm applause to express warm congratulations to the elected president and vice president. The president-elect, Professor Yan Jing, nominated Li Li as Director General of the Critical Care Medicine Branch, and Ouyang Bin, Kang Hongjun and Liu Bingyu as deputy directors general. President Yan Jing said that the branch will further strengthen academic research and exploration, promote the improvement of scientific research and clinical diagnosis and treatment level of elderly severe diseases, and make more contributions to promote the comprehensive management of elderly severe diseases in China!

During the meeting, a consensus conference was held, and the Chinese Expert Consensus on the prevention of venous thromboembolism in Elderly patients with severe Diseases (2023) and the Chinese Expert Consensus on Enteral Nutrition Support for Elderly Patients with severe Diseases (2022) were released. These two consensus led by Professor Yan Jing, the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society organized experts to complete, and published in the "Chinese Critical Care Emergency Medicine" and "Chinese Geriatric Research electronic journal".

Professor Yan Jing comprehensively introduced the relevant contents of the "Chinese Expert Consensus on the Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism in Elderly Patients with Severe Diseases (2023)", including the formulation background, formulation method, working process and recommendations, and carried out a detailed interpretation. Consensus Based on clinical practice, relevant suggestions are given for risk assessment, screening, prevention and management of VTE in elderly patients with severe disease.

Professor Wang Shouhong comprehensively introduced the relevant contents of the Expert Consensus on Enteral Nutrition Support for Elderly Patients with Severe Diseases in China (2022), and made an in-depth interpretation. Consensus Based on the clinical needs, the nutritional risk, feeding, swallowing and gastrointestinal function assessment, feeding dose, timing, approach, formulation, monitoring, prevention of complications and enteral nutrition in the elderly patients with severe diseases were recommended.

The experts at the meeting held a heated discussion on the highlights of the consensus, the changes brought to the treatment, and the main clinical problems to be solved.

During the panel discussion, we discussed ";Enteral nutrition Treatment Strategy for Patients with severe stress hyperglycemia and Diabetes" by Professor Zhang Xijing of Xijing Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University, "Application of Remazolam toluene sulfonate in ICU" by Professor Qin Bingyu of Henan Provincial People's Hospital. Professor Yuan Shiying of Union Hospital Affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, "Mechanical prevention of VTE in ICU patients" and other topics were discussed and exchanged warmly.

In the academic exchange session, CAI Guolong, director of Zhejiang Hospital, made a keynote speech at the conference of "Chronic Severe Diseases: Serious Problems for the Elderly". The experts held special lectures and academic discussions on chronic severe diseases, Professor Wang Juxiang of Xiamen University Affiliated Cardiovascular Hospital made a special report on "Chronic severe diseases and immunity", and Professor Long Huaicong of Sichuan Province People's Hospital made a special report on "Chronic severe diseases in the elderly: Attention to sarcopenia".

Professor Zhu Baohua from Nanjing Central Hospital and Lin Tian from Quanzhou First Hospital affiliated to Fujian Medical University respectively conducted syndrome differentiation and treatment from the elderly patients with severe diseases. The discussion experts conducted in-depth discussions on infection, immunity, nutrition and other aspects of elderly patients with severe diseases.

The meeting ended successfully with warm applause from everyone. The successful holding of this forum marks the continuous advancement of the clinical field of senile severe diseases and has great significance for promoting healthy aging.
