From March 1st to 2nd, 2025, on the occasion of the 26th National Ear Care Day, the Chinese Geriatrics Society launched a series of training and free medical consultation public welfare activities for the 2025 National Elderly Hearing Health Promotion Action in Changsha. Through a dual-wheel drive model of "training + free medical consultation", a team of authoritative experts from across the country is organized to provide guidance, demonstration and free medical consultation in local areas. The working mechanism integrating elderly hearing screening and intervention, health science popularization and talent cultivation is constantly improved to create a healthy environment where "hear the voices of all things with your ears and enjoy a wonderful life".
The Changsha Station event focuses on four core sections: "science popularization and education, screening and intervention, professional training, and public welfare services", and continues to innovate service models. First, technology empowers precise screening by introducing portable hearing testing devices to achieve a "one-stop" rapid screening in the community and precisely match intervention plans. Second, the depth of talent training has been expanded. Training courses such as "Hearing Health Screening for the Elderly" have been set up, covering community medical staff, elderly care workers and volunteers, to build a backbone force for the "last mile" of service. Third, the public welfare network has achieved full coverage. The Ear Science Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics has joined hands with over 20 medical institutions in Hunan Province to establish a long-term screening - intervention - follow-up mechanism, benefiting more elderly people throughout the province.
On the afternoon of March 1st, the free medical consultation public welfare activity was launched with great enthusiasm in Changsha City first. Professor Wang Qiuju, the president of the Ear Science Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led 24 experts from all over the country to form two teams to conduct free medical consultations in military retirement homes and elderly care institutions. Through the standardized process of "ear examination - hearing test - health guidance", more than 500 elderly people have been served cumulatively and over a thousand popular science handbooks have been distributed.
At the training session held on March 2nd, an innovative "main venue teaching + cloud classroom live streaming" model was adopted. Authoritative experts from top domestic medical institutions such as the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, Peking University People's Hospital, Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University were invited. Five specialized training sessions were held, focusing on key technologies such as the core information and implementation plan of the Elderly hearing Health promotion action, intervention for elderly hearing loss, and hearing aid fitting. The online learning received 60,800 clicks.
The Elderly Hearing Health Promotion Initiative is organized and led by the Department of Aging Health of the National Health Commission and implemented by the Chinese Society of Geriatrics. The 2025 Elderly Hearing Health Promotion Action Series of training and free medical consultation public welfare activities were successfully launched in Changsha, which will effectively promote the development of elderly hearing health promotion work across the country.
