On April 18, 2026, the National "Action for Promoting Hearing Health in the Elderly (2024-2027)" series of training and public welfare free medical consultation activities, which were coordinated and deployed by the National Health Commission and organized and implemented by the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, were successfully held in Kunming. As an important special action of the country to address population aging and promote the construction of a Healthy China, this event, based on the national work layout, has allocated high-quality medical resources and focused on the weak links in the hearing health of the elderly. It was successfully implemented at the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province and achieved good social results.

This event is themed "Listen to the Sounds of All Things, Enjoy a Wonderful Life", adhering to the working orientation of "prevention First, moving the checkpoint forward, and emphasizing service". It adopts a dual-wheel drive model of academic training and public welfare free medical consultation, focusing on four major tasks: elderly hearing screening, standardized diagnosis and treatment, health science popularization and education, and improvement of grassroots service capabilities. Accurately address prominent issues such as "late detection, late intervention, weak service, and insufficient capacity at the grassroots level" in elderly hearing health, and effectively bring national-level expert resources, standardized diagnosis and treatment norms, and full-cycle health services to the grassroots and the people.

The event is guided by the Health Commission of Yunnan Province, coordinated by the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, and specifically executed by the Otorhinolaryngology Branch. It is jointly organized by the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, the Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Branch of the Yunnan Medical Association, and other units. Wang Jiankun, a member of the Party Group and deputy director of the Health Commission of Yunnan Province, Song Zhengji, vice president of the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, and Professor Wang Qiuju, director of the Otolaryngology Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and from the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, attended the event. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Dayong, the general secretary of the Ear Science Branch.
The experts attending the meeting unanimously agreed that the hearing health of the elderly is directly related to their quality of life, cognitive function and social participation ability, and is of vital importance to the happiness of hundreds of millions of families and the overall situation of healthy aging. Launching a nationwide hearing health promotion campaign is not only a concrete measure to implement the national strategy of proactively responding to population aging, but also a practical action to make up for the shortcomings in elderly health services and promote equalization of basic public health services.

At the event site, the organizers presented certificates of appreciation to the experts, medical staff and units who participated in the free medical consultation and volunteer services, further consolidating the powerful synergy of the government, academic societies, medical institutions and social forces to jointly promote the cause of elderly hearing health.

The academic training session closely focuses on four core areas: policy interpretation, clinical norms, cutting-edge progress, and grassroots practical operation, and is conducted both online and offline simultaneously. More than 150 participants attended the event offline, and the online visit volume exceeded 11,000, covering otology departments and grassroots medical staff in many parts of the country. Professor Wang Qiuju systematically interpreted the national action goals, implementation paths and work requirements. Professor Chai Renjie shared the mechanism of inner ear aging and the latest achievements in regenerative medicine. Professor Pei Jiahong conducted an in-depth analysis of the correlation between hearing loss and systemic diseases, cognitive functions, and safety risks. Professors Guo Min, Chen Guohui and others respectively gave special lectures on dealing with hearing confusion among the elderly and the standardized operation of hearing tests. This not only enhanced the professional capabilities at the grassroots level but also unified the national standards for diagnosis and treatment services, laying a solid foundation for the standardized and homogenized promotion of the action in various regions.

A large-scale public welfare free medical consultation was held simultaneously that afternoon. National and provincial otolaryngology and audiology expert teams provide one-stop services for the elderly, including ear examinations, hearing assessments, personalized intervention guidance, hearing aid fitting consultations, and scientific ear protection education. The public has participated enthusiastically and responded enthusiastically, effectively enhancing the elderly's sense of health gain and security.
This event in Kunming is another landmark practice of the National Elderly Hearing Health Promotion Initiative, which has been implemented for more than two years, featuring standardized advancement, regional implementation and precise services. The event not only strengthened the implementation of national policies at the local level but also enhanced the regional capacity for elderly hearing health services, further improving the national working pattern of "government guidance, academic society coordination, expert support, institutional collaboration, and social participation".
Next, the Chinese Society of Geriatrics will continue to promote the elderly hearing health promotion action across the country, constantly expanding the coverage, allocating high-quality resources, strengthening grassroots capabilities, and deepening popular science education and publicity. It aims to achieve early screening, early assessment, early intervention, and early rehabilitation of elderly hearing health, and effectively improve the health level and quality of life of the elderly. Contribute professional strength to promoting the construction of a Healthy China and achieving healthy aging.
