On May 9, 2026, the "Academic Symposium on New Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertension in the Elderly" was successfully held in Beijing, co-organized by the Hypertension Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, the Beijing Geriatrics Professional Quality Control and Improvement Center, and Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University. This conference, with the theme of "Empowering with Party Building and Addressing Public Concerns", thoroughly implements the Healthy China strategy and the national strategy of proactively responding to population aging. It closely adheres to the requirements of establishing and practicing a correct view of political achievements, upholds Party building leadership, academic innovation, and serving the people's livelihood, and continuously enhances the capacity for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases among the elderly.

This meeting clearly put forward that the greatest political achievement is to better control the blood pressure of the elderly, reduce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, and improve their quality of life. This conference brought together authoritative experts in the field of geriatric hypertension and cardiovascular diseases in China to discuss the revision of the "Chinese Geriatric Hypertension Management Guidelines 2023". It combined the latest evidence-based evidence, updates to international guidelines, and domestic clinical practice issues and challenges In-depth exchanges were held on key issues such as blood pressure reduction targets for the elderly and frail population, individualized management of comorbidities, risk prevention and control of polypharmacy, standardized application of blood pressure outside the clinic, and intervention of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, with everyone expressing their opinions freely and reaching a consensus.
