From August 7th to 8th, 2026, the "9th Geriatric Vascular Disease Conference 2026, the 15th West China Vascular Frontier Academic Conference and the Academic Conference of the Peripheral Vascular Group of the Nursing Professional Committee of the International Vascular Union China Branch" was successfully held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The event was hosted by the Peripheral Vascular Disease Management Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and organized by West China Hospital of Sichuan University.

The opening ceremony site of the conference
On August 8th, the conference was grandly opened, and the opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Huang Bin, the director of the Vascular Surgery Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Professor Yu Pulin, vice president of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, and many other academic leaders in the field of vascular surgery in China, as well as experts and colleagues from all over the country, jointly attended the opening ceremony.
Subsequently, Professor Zhao Jichun, the chairperson of the conference, delivered a welcoming speech. Professors Hu Jiankun, Wu Qinghua, Fu Weiguo, Guo Wei and Chen Zhong respectively gave opening remarks. It was unanimously pointed out that the aging process of the population in our country is continuously accelerating at present. Vascular diseases such as abdominal aortic aneurysm and lower extremity arterial ischemia are highly prevalent among the elderly. Moreover, elderly patients have multiple coexisting diseases and declining organ functions, with high risks in diagnosis and treatment and great difficulty in management. Meanwhile, the basic skills of young physicians in open surgery have weakened, and the inheritance of techniques is facing challenges. The development of the discipline urgently needs to be prepared in advance. The guests highly affirmed the remarkable achievements made by the Peripheral Vascular Disease Management Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society since its establishment in building a national academic collaboration platform, promoting standardized diagnosis and treatment, conducting popular science activities benefiting the elderly, and facilitating international exchanges. The rich achievements and regional demonstration and leading role of the Vascular Surgery Department of West China Hospital in the fields of complex aortic lesions, retroperitoneal tumors and combined surgeries were highly praised. Looking to the future, the guests unanimously emphasized the need to attach great importance to the training of young physicians, consolidate their basic skills in open surgery, and enhance their comprehensive clinical treatment and scientific research innovation capabilities. At the same time, we should continue to rely on the two major platforms of the society and West China Hospital, deepen national academic exchanges and regional collaboration, promote advanced diagnosis and treatment technologies to reach the grassroots level, jointly contribute to the high-quality development of geriatric vascular medicine, and contribute the strength of vascular surgery professionals to the construction of a Healthy China.

Digital intelligence empowers the forefront of intensive care, and medical staff collaborate to safeguard health and well-being - The integrated medical and nursing nursing sub-forum achieved fruitful results!

On August 8th, the sub-forum on integrated medical and nursing care was held simultaneously. The opening ceremony of this sub-forum was presided over by Professor Ren Li, the head nurse of the Vascular Surgery Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Renowned experts and scholars from both within and outside the province, including Professor Zhao Jichun, Professor Huang Bin, Professor Jiang Yan, and Professor Tang Menglin from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, as well as nursing colleagues from all over the country, gathered together to explore new paths for the high-quality development of specialized vascular surgery nursing. Professors Zhao Jichun, Huang Bin and Jiang Yan delivered speeches in turn.

This nursing session takes "Integration of Medical Care and Nursing" as its core theme, gathering experts, clinical backbones and young scholars in the field of vascular surgery nursing across the country. It focuses on the clinical difficulties of the specialty, research hotspots and the cutting-edge of smart nursing, and conducts multi-dimensional and high-level academic exchanges. The conference kicked off with the exchange and presentation of nursing papers. Ten young nursing representatives gave wonderful reports on cutting-edge topics such as perioperative intervention for lymphedema, precise prevention of VTE, safety of intravenous therapy, physical and mental management of lower extremity vascular diseases, and clinical application of smart nursing, fully demonstrating the solid scientific research and critical thinking abilities as well as clinical innovation vitality of the new generation of young nursing staff.
The keynote report session was rich in content and well-structured. It was divided into four distinctive sections: keynote Frontiers, Clinical Management, Digital Evidence-Based, and Specialized Humanities, comprehensively covering the cutting-edge fields of vascular surgery nursing.
