May 17, 2025 marked the 21st "World Hypertension Day". The Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, in collaboration with Beijing Huasheng Rehabilitation Hospital and the Shiliuzhuang Nanli Community in Fengtai District, Beijing, jointly held a large-scale free medical consultation event with the theme of "Love Free Clinic in the Community, Zero Distance Blood Pressure Management", aiming to enhance residents' awareness of hypertension and popularize scientific prevention and treatment knowledge. Contribute to the construction of healthy communities.
Highlights of the event
Free screening and health consultation
A team of over ten experts from the Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and Beijing Huasheng Rehabilitation Hospital, including those from the departments of cardiology, geriatrics, Traditional Chinese medicine, and endocrinology, led by Zhao Lizhen, vice president of the Public Health Service Branch and president of Beijing Huasheng Rehabilitation Hospital, provided free blood pressure and blood sugar tests as well as blood pressure health consultation and assessment services for community residents. A total of over 200 residents were screened at the event site. Among them, about 20% of the participants had abnormal blood pressure values. Experts provided personalized suggestions for each one and reminded high-risk groups to seek medical attention in a timely manner.
2. The popular science lectures are highly interactive
On the day of the free medical consultation, medical staff gave a popular science lecture to the community residents. Experts, taking the "Chinese Hypertension Prevention and Control Guidelines" as the core, explain the causes, hazards and key points of daily management of hypertension in simple and understandable language. Through the analysis of real cases, they enable residents to intuitively understand the importance of prevention and control of the "silent killer".
3. Residents' likes
The event was highly praised by the community residents. Aunt Wang, a resident of the community, said, "I usually neglect to measure my blood pressure. I only found out today that controlling blood pressure can prevent strokes. Such a free medical consultation is so practical!"
4. Expert reminder
Professor Bao Ming, an expert from the Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and from the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital, pointed out that the prevalence of hypertension in China is high, but the awareness rate and control rate are insufficient. The prevention and control of hypertension requires a three-pronged approach of "monitoring + lifestyle + medication", especially to correct the misconception that "no symptoms = no problem". People over 35 years old need to monitor their blood pressure every year, and those with a family history should be especially vigilant. He emphasized: Hypertension is preventable and controllable. The earlier it is managed, the less damage it can cause to the heart, brain and kidneys!
This community free medical consultation event, through the "society + hospital + community" linkage model, brought high-quality medical resources to the grassroots level, effectively enhancing the health awareness of community residents and laying a solid foundation for the prevention and control of chronic diseases at the grassroots level. The future branch will regularly carry out similar activities to contribute to the construction of a Healthy China.
