All colleagues of the Chinese Geriatrics Society are deeply saddened and reluctant to hear of the passing of Ms. Luo Yuping.

Ms. Luo Yuping is one of the early advocates of hospice care and advance directives in China. With the acuity and enthusiasm of a medical professional, she continuously conveys her understanding and respect for the dignity of life in the often taboo area of the end of life. Over the years, she has forged a deep friendship with the Chinese Society of Geriatrics in the process of promoting elderly health and palliative care.

She used to be a clinician and witnessed the suffering of many terminally ill patients in overtreatment. This prompted her to launch the "Choice and Dignity" public welfare website in 2006 and promote the establishment of the Beijing Advance Notice Promotion Association. Through texts such as "My Five Wishes", she helps the public think rationally and express their medical wishes at the end of their lives, bringing the concept of "dying with dignity" into the public eye. She has always patiently clarified the difference between "dignified death" and "euthanasia", and through sincere communication and professional interpretation, has aroused society's attention to the quality of life, and has also made positive efforts for the legalization process of related concepts.

Ms. Luo Yuping not only has medical literacy but also is passionate about communication. Through her writing and public education, she has brought the concept of tranquility into the view of more people. She once said, "The length of life cannot be controlled, but the quality and dignity of life can always be defined by ourselves." This sentence is the warmest reminder she left to this era.

Nowadays, palliative care is being understood by more and more people, and advance directives are gradually coming into the public eye. Although Ms. Luo Yuping has passed away, the belief and warmth she conveyed will continue to illuminate the final journey of many lives.

Here, we express our deepest condolences to Ms. Luo Yuping and wish her peace.
