To implement the national strategy of proactively responding to population aging, promote academic innovation and standard construction in the field of geriatric nutrition and food safety, and facilitate the high-quality development of the national geriatric nutrition discipline The "2026 Academic Conference of the Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society", hosted by the Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and co-organized by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, was grandly held in Hangzhou on May 16, 2026. More than 400 experts, committee members and representatives from the fields of geriatric nutrition, clinical nutrition, food science and elderly care institutions across the country attended the conference.

Professor Wang Liangjing, Vice President of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and director of the Institute of Gastroenterology of Zhejiang University, attended the opening ceremony via video link and delivered a speech.

Professor Rao Zhiyong, the chairperson of the Third Committee of the Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, presided over the opening ceremony.

The conference held the release ceremony of the "Chinese Expert Consensus on General Clinical Practice Rules for Therapeutic Diets in Medical Institutions (2026 Edition)".

This consensus was initiated by Professor Hu Wen, honorary director of the Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and seven authoritative experts were invited to serve as advisors. It took one year to complete the compilation under the collaborative efforts of 19 co-writing experts, 32 discussion experts and the secretariat of the West China Dietary Management Nutritionist Team. Professor Hu Wen, the chief editor of the consensus, gave a detailed interpretation of the background of the consensus's compilation, its core points and clinical practice value at the conference.

Keynote report

This academic conference focuses on the cutting-edge trends, clinical practices and development bottlenecks in the field, building a high-quality platform for academic exchange, achievement sharing and collaborative progress. The main venue of the conference invited renowned experts in the fields of geriatrics and nutrition in China to deliver keynote speeches. Professor Xu Jiaren shared "Geriatric Medicine Thinking and Considerations for Non-Geriatric Medicine Specialties in the Aging Era", Professor Zhang Lishi explained "Supervision and Safety Evaluation of Food and Drug Substances in China", Professor Yao Ying reported on "Nutritional Management for Elderly Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease", and Professor Yu Kang shared "Application of Nutritional Dietary Prescriptions (NDP) in Elderly Nutritional Management". Professor Li Zhenshui delivered a report titled "The Role of AI Nutrition Digitalization in the Concept of Big Nutrition: Mechanisms, Scenarios and Prospects".

Special Session 1 - Innovative Development of Elderly Nutrition In-depth exchanges were held on topics such as micronutrient deficiency and supply in critically ill patients, difficulties and countermeasures in nutritional diagnosis and treatment for elderly patients, nutritional treatment for respiratory diseases in the elderly, nutritional intervention for fatigue and frailty in the elderly, nutritional treatment at different stages of chronic kidney disease, nutritional intervention strategies for metabolism-related fatty liver, an overview of dietary guidelines for the elderly in various countries around the world, and parenteral nutrition support for the elderly. Professors Rao Zhiyong, Zhang Pianhong, Zhu Cuifeng, Zhou Li, Shao Chunhai, Wang Xiaohui, Rong Shuang, Kang Junren and others delivered wonderful reports.

Sub-session 2 - Empowering Community Elderly Health - H2H Innovative Model Practice Focus on hot topics such as the full-process nutritional management of chronic diseases, weight management strategies for the elderly, nutritional intervention for chronic fatigue syndrome, nutritional density regulation for sarcopenia in the elderly, nutritional prescriptions for cardiovascular diseases in the elderly, operation of hospital nutrition departments and charging paths for medical food, low-carbon ketogenic diet and neurodegenerative diseases, and clinical innovative applications of nutritional microecological therapy. Experts such as Liu Yinghua, Li Li, Chen Liyong, Jiang Zhixiong, Liu Peng, Huang Huifang, Wang Man and CAI Enzhao shared their practical experiences and cutting-edge explorations.

This academic conference shared the latest research achievements and practical experiences in the field of geriatric nutrition and food safety, showcased the new working approach of the Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, which is "academic leadership, standard first, service implementation, and industrial empowerment", and integrated the forces of industry, academia, research, and application. It has made significant contributions to promoting the in-depth implementation of the National Nutrition Plan (2017-2030) and serving the strategies of Healthy China and Healthy aging.
