On May 29, 2026, the third committee election conference of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society was grandly held in Tianjin. Vice President Cao Feng, Deputy Secretary-General Zhao Jicheng of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, the head of the second committee of the branch, and the candidates for the third committee attended the meeting. Professor Chen Jie, the president and deputy secretary of the Party committee of the Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wenzhou Medical University, presided over the meeting.

Professor Qu Jia, the chairperson of the Second Committee of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Professor Qu Jia pointed out that population aging is a major social issue in China, and the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has pointed out the direction for the development of geriatric medicine. Under the intensification of aging, the problem of age-related visual function decline has become increasingly prominent, directly affecting the quality of life and physical and mental health of the elderly. He stated that under the leadership of the Party building, the branch has carried out a large amount of solid and effective work, continuously promoting academic exchanges, talent cultivation and disciplinary collaboration, laying a solid foundation for the development of geriatric ophthalmology in our country. He particularly emphasized that the Geriatrics Society does not merely focus on the eye health of the elderly, but rather aims to safeguard vision throughout the entire life cycle. As the first chairperson of the branch, he reviewed the development process of the branch, expressed his gratitude for the past efforts, and at the same time expressed high expectations for the new leadership team of the branch, firmly believing that the branch will surely achieve even greater success in the future.

Vice President Cao Feng of the Chinese Geriatrics Society delivered a speech and read out the document "Approval on the Preparation for the Re-election of the Ophthalmology Branch". Professors Li Zhaohui, Wei Wenbin, Zhang Hong, Wei Ruihua, Zhou Xiangtian, Xia Xiaobo, Chen Weirong, Ye Lu and Wu Zhengzheng were elected as vice chairpersons. Professor Lyu Fan nominated Professor Chen Jie as the general secretary and Professors Yang Zhikuan, Li Jin and Chen Tianyu as deputy general secretaries to form a new core working team, providing organizational support for the efficient subsequent work of the branch.
