On June 6, 2026, the "Healthy Aging, Standardized Leadership" - Training Conference on the Construction of Characteristic General Hospitals for Geriatrics and the High-Quality Development of Elderly Health Services, hosted by the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch of the China Geriatrics Society and Beijing Geriatric Hospital, was successfully held at the Conference Center of the Zhongguancun National Innovation Demonstration Zone in Beijing. Relying on the platform of the Zhongguancun Forum, the conference focused on the promotion and release of national industry standards and group standards. It brought together leaders from the national, municipal and district-level health and wellness authorities as well as experts and scholars in the field of geriatrics across the country. The aim was to further promote the high-quality development of elderly health and the integration of medical care and elderly care, build a standard system for geriatrics, and promote the experience of building characteristic comprehensive hospitals in geriatrics.

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Yu Zhen, vice president of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, director of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch and president of Beijing Geriatric Hospital. Xu Chong, Deputy Director and First-level Researcher of the Health Service Division of the Department of Aging Health of the National Health Commission, Bi Xianguo, Director of the Department of Aging Health of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, and Li Xiuli, Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Haidian District, Beijing, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Chairperson Yu Zhen stated that standardization is a significant indicator of regulating the development of the industry, an important means to enhance service quality, and the inevitable path to promoting the high-quality development of the elderly health cause. He emphasized that in the next step, the focus will be on elderly health, with standards as the sail and practical actions as the wings, to continuously improve the construction of geriatric hospitals and the elderly health service system.

The keynote forum session was co-hosted by Xu Jiaren, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, Ouyang Xiaojun, Deputy Director of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch and Vice President of Jiangsu Provincial Geriatric Hospital, and Quan Xing, Deputy Director of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch and Deputy secretary of the Party Committee and President of Yunnan Provincial Geriatric Hospital.

Yang Ze, deputy director of the Geriatric Health Care Center of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention and director of the Geriatric Health Standards Branch of the China Association of Geriatric Health Care, delivered a keynote speech titled "Professional Standardization Construction and Application of Geriatric Health - From Fragmented Practice to Systematic Management", deeply analyzing the current situation, challenges and practical paths of the geriatric health standards system construction. A strategy for transforming from fragmented practice to systematic management was proposed. Chen Zheng, the supervisor of the Supervisory Board of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and the former president of Beijing Geriatric Hospital, delivered a special presentation on "Embracing the Silver Wave and Reshaping Medical Services - Interpretation of the Basic Standards for Geriatric Medicine Characteristic General Hospitals", elaborating in detail on the core essence and implementation requirements of the standards, providing practical guidance for promoting the standardized construction of geriatric medicine characteristic general hospitals.

The keynote report session was co-hosted by Li Hui, the deputy director of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch and the president of Hebei Provincial Geriatric Hospital, and Li Bo, the deputy director of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch and the Party secretary of Nanhai District Geriatric Hospital in Foshan City.

Yu Zhen, vice president of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, director of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch, and president of Beijing Geriatric Hospital, shared the innovative exploration, practical experience and standardization construction achievements of Haidian District in the field of elderly health and medical care integration under the title of "Haidian Model of Elderly Health and Medical Care Integration and Standardization Construction". Zhou Yanmin, a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, a member of the National Elderly Care Service System Construction Expert Committee of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and the director of the Standardization Committee of the China Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, delivered a report titled "Elderly-friendly Construction of Characteristic General Hospitals in Geriatrics", sharing the design requirements for some of the hospital's diagnosis and treatment Spaces, facilities and equipment, and barrier-free restrooms. It is emphasized that barrier-free and elderly-friendly designs should be in line with the actual needs of the elderly. They should be carefully planned based on the medical treatment scenarios to create a safe, convenient, warm and comfortable medical environment. Xu Jiarun, vice president and secretary-general of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, systematically discussed the construction path and key points of geriatrics in the aging era from four dimensions: "The development of the discipline should be problem-oriented, actively integrate into national strategies, be based on policy regulations, and clearly define its own positioning." Liu Xiaohong, the chairperson of the Geriatrics Specialist Physicians Branch of the Beijing Medical Doctor Association and the former director of the Geriatrics Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, delivered a speech titled "Optimization and Reengineering of Geriatric Medical Service Processes". She conducted an in-depth analysis of the geriatric medical service models and frameworks in medical institutions, and shared strategies and practical experiences for reengineering service processes in response to the pain points and difficulties in the service processes. Ni Ruyang, the vice president of Beijing Geriatric Hospital, delivered a report titled "Exploration and Practice on the Construction of a Quality Management System for Geriatric Characteristic Medical Care", focusing on the quality control and safety management of geriatric characteristic medical care, and sharing the practical experience of Beijing Geriatric Hospital in the field of medical quality and safety in recent years.

This training session closely revolved around the theme of "Healthy Aging, Standardized Leadership", providing theoretical guidance and practical direction for the construction of comprehensive hospitals with characteristic geriatric medicine, and also gathering consensus and strength for the high-quality development of elderly health services. Taking this training session as an opportunity, the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society will adhere to the leadership of the Party building, give full play to the vanguard and exemplary role of Party member experts, unite and rally a large number of experts, scholars and practitioners, continuously build a high-level academic exchange platform, and accelerate the implementation of the basic standards for geriatric medicine characteristic comprehensive hospitals and the series of standards for elderly health services. Promote the standardized and high-quality development of elderly health services. With concrete measures to "do practical things for the people", we will ensure that standardized and homogeneous elderly medical services are more accessible, fairer and more convenient for the elderly, effectively enhancing their sense of health gain and quality of life, and contributing more to the high-quality development of China's geriatric medicine.
