In order to effectively enhance the health literacy and self-care ability of elderly residents in the community, recently, Lin Lin, the general director of the College Education Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, and Chen Rui, the deputy general director, led the Health and Elderly Care volunteer Service team of the Geriatric Health College of Chengdu Medical College to successfully hold a health knowledge popularization and free medical consultation activity with the theme of "Health Escort, Caring for the Silver Age" in Guidong Community.

This event aims to transform the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine into accessible health preservation guides, meeting the needs of the elderly in the community for scientific and practical health knowledge. During the event, the volunteers transformed into "science popularization experts on traditional Chinese medicinal materials". Through vivid explanations and physical displays, they introduced in detail to the elderly the efficacy and characteristics of common Chinese medicinal materials such as mugwort, agastache and eupatorium lindleyanum, allowing the elderly to experience the charm of traditional Chinese medicine up close. To enhance the sense of participation and practicality, volunteers provided on-site teaching and guided the elderly to make sachets with the effect of calming the mind and promoting sleep by themselves. The elderly people were in high spirits and actively engaged in their work. Looking at the works they had completed, their faces were filled with contented smiles. In addition, the team carefully prepared 100 sachets containing herbal essences and presented them to the elderly participating in the event. Their exquisite craftsmanship and practical effects were deeply loved by everyone.

Another important part of the event is the free health consultation. The volunteers gave full play to their professional expertise and carefully and patiently conducted blood pressure measurements and health consultations for the elderly. During the measurement process, they softly inquired about the daily physical conditions of the elderly, carefully recorded the measurement results, and provided personalized daily health care suggestions based on the situation, effectively enhancing the elderly's awareness of self-health management.

This "Health Escort and Care for the Elderly" event is a concrete practice of a series of public welfare activities organized by the Education Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics. The volunteers conveyed care and warmth through their actions. They not only enabled the elderly to learn practical knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine for health preservation and master simple and easy health care skills, but also made them feel the concern from society. The event combines health science popularization with considerate services, contributing to creating a favorable community atmosphere of respecting, loving and assisting the elderly, and helping elderly friends enjoy a healthy and happy life.
