In response to the urgent need for elderly health management in the context of population aging, from October 18th to 19th, 2025, under the guidance of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, The training course "New Technologies for Comprehensive Assessment and Management of Frailty and Sarcopenia", jointly organized by the Sports Health Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, the International Exchange Working Committee of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and Shanxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital (Shanxi Provincial Fifth People's Hospital), was successfully held. A total of 130 medical workers from 23 provinces across the country (103 offline and 27 online) passed the systematic training, all of whom passed the assessment and obtained the certificates of completion, marking a new stage in the construction of the talent team in the field of prevention and treatment of geriatric frailty and sarcopenia in China.

This training session brings together over ten renowned experts from top domestic hospitals, research institutes and universities. It focuses on core themes such as the assessment criteria, management strategies and intervention techniques for frailty and sarcopenia in the elderly. The content covers all aspects from basic research to clinical practice, from assessment and diagnosis to intervention management. Through a combination of special lectures, practical workshops and interactive sessions, It brought the trainees a rich and practical academic feast, earning high praise from the attendees.

Opening ceremony: Focusing on the challenges of aging, clarify the core goals of training

At the opening ceremony, Professor Dong Birong, the president of the Sports Health Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, pointed out that sarcopenia has become a severe public health challenge currently faced by China. Its high prevalence rate has seriously affected the quality of life of the elderly and increased the burden of social care. This training aims to build a high-level academic platform and promote the application of the latest assessment techniques and management concepts in this field. Dong Birong emphasized.

Professor CAI Linning, with the theme of "Exploration of Artificial Intelligence in Elderly Sports Rehabilitation and Medical Care", demonstrated the application scenarios of intelligent technology in elderly health management.

Professor Huang Liping focused on "The Appropriate Application and Interpretation of Body Composition Analysis at the Grassroots Level", elaborating on the assessment techniques that can be implemented in grassroots institutions.

Professor Zhang Jinping shared "Construction of Geriatric Nutrition Demonstration Wards and Community Nutrition Management Standards", explaining the construction standards and community nutrition service models.

Director Ouyang Xiaojun from Jiangsu Provincial Geriatric Hospital gave an in-depth yet easy-to-understand explanation of the "Standardized Assessment Methods for Geriatric Frailty and Sarcopenia", laying a solid foundation for subsequent learning.

The practical workshop became a highlight Professor Zhang Xinsheng from the First Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, Director Lyu Jihui from Beijing Geriatric Hospital, and Associate Professor Li Xuemei from Beijing Sport University respectively provided hands-on teaching guidance on "Geriatric Nutritional Assessment and Standardized Implementation of Sarcopenia Nutritional Prescriptions", "Assessment and Cognitive Training of Cognitive Impairment in the Elderly", and "Daily Implementation Plan for Resistance Training". It has significantly enhanced the practical operation ability of the trainees.

Cutting-edge Academic Analysis: Associate Researcher Meng Jiao from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, shares "Hotspots and Future Directions of Basic Research on Sarcopenia" Professor Gu Hongqiu from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, shared all his knowledge on the ideas and techniques for selecting research articles, inspiring the research ideas of the trainees.

Comorbidity and Integrated Management

Professor Hu Yixin, the executive vice president of the branch, introduced the "Assessment and Treatment of Cognitive Frailty and the World Health Organization's ICOPE Project". Professor Huang Liping from Tianjin University of Sport and Professor Cui Jianmei from North University of China respectively elaborated in detail on "Assessment of Exercise Capacity for the Elderly", "Principles for Formulating Exercise Prescriptions, and Progress in exercise intervention for sarcopenia combined with Depression". Director Guo Yanqing from Shanxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital discussed the "Association between sarcopenia and Cardiovascular diseases". Deputy Director Du Yufeng from the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University and Professor Wang Xiaohui from the Mental Illness Diagnosis and Treatment Center of the People's Liberation Army respectively gave systematic explanations on "Sarcopenia - Frailty and Comorbidity Management" and "Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Sleep and Depressive Disorders in the Elderly". Finally, Director Cao Jian of the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army of China gave an authoritative interpretation of the "Group Standard for the Construction of Outpatient Clinics for Frailty and Sarcopenia".

During the interactive session, "Preventive Training Movements and Teaching Methods for Sarcopenia in Active Seniors" pushed the on-site learning atmosphere to a climax, enhancing the fun and sense of participation of the training.

Trainees generally feedback that the training courses are scientifically and reasonably designed, the content is cutting-edge and practical, the instructor team is professional and authoritative, and the teaching forms are rich and diverse. Through systematic study, not only has the understanding of the theoretical knowledge of geriatric frailty and sarcopenia been deepened, but also the practical skills of related assessment, intervention and management have been significantly improved.
