From October 18th to 19th, 2025, under the guidance of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics The "Launch Conference of the Interdisciplinary Prevention and Treatment Action Project 'Move for Health, Muscles Must Be Lost' and Academic Exchange Conference on Innovative Technologies for Frailty and Sarcopenia" jointly organized by the Sports Health Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, the International Exchange Working Committee of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and Shanxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital (Shanxi Provincial Fifth People's Hospital) was successfully held and concluded successfully.

This meeting was meticulously guided by the leaders of the society and achieved remarkable results with the active cooperation of Shanxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital. Opening ceremony: Drawing up a blueprint for prevention and control and building consensus for action

At the opening ceremony, Honorary Director Zhang Qiujian of the Expert Committee of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, in his speech, analyzed the severe reality that the elderly population in China is suffering from frailty - sarcopenia at present, and pointed out the direction for further promoting the "Exercise for Health, Muscles Must Be Lost" project. She put forward two expectations to the participants: "Moving screening forward to the grassroots level and exploring its inclusion in medical insurance payments", and called on all parties to closely collaborate to jointly promote the development of China's healthy aging cause.

President Dong Birong of the Sports Health Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society stated that frailty and sarcopenia are the core challenges in promoting the health of the elderly. The scientific movement is a first-line intervention measure. This initiative, jointly launched by over 150 units across the country, aims to achieve the connection of "hospital-community-home" services through standardized training, cross-disciplinary collaboration and AI technology. She called on all units to, on the basis of improving the certification mechanism for "Elderly Capacity Assessors", strive to carry out all kinds of work in accordance with the construction standards.

President MAO Lijuan of Shanghai University of Sport stated in her speech that physical education is an effective means to prevent and treat sarcopenia in the elderly, and exercise prescriptions are important intervention measures supported by A-level evidence. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the relevant plans of the General Administration of Sport of China have clearly defined the policy orientation of promoting the integration of sports and health to prevent and treat sarcopenia. "Enjoy Health with Movement, Don't Lose Your Skin" is a practical activity based on the concept of integrating sports and health. The relevant training aims to empower the service team. In the future, multi-party cooperation should be deepened to jointly carry out technical research and talent cultivation.

Yuan Xiaoguo, the full-time vice president of the Shanxi Provincial Family Planning Association, emphasized in his speech that the Shanxi Provincial Health Commission is making every effort to promote the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia. By 2025, the transformation of the former Shanxi Provincial Coal Central Hospital into Shanxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital has been approved by the National Health Commission. In the future, Shanxi will also promote the establishment of at least one geriatric hospital in each prefecture-level city and ensure its high-quality operation.

President Wu Ying of Shanxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital stated that the hospital will take this conference as an opportunity to earnestly act as a "learner", "practitioner" and "promoter", build a full-process service chain of "screening - assessment - intervention - follow-up", and join hands with elderly health service institutions at all levels in the province to promote the implementation of achievements at the grassroots level, and contribute to the overall improvement of elderly health service capabilities in Shanxi.

Dong Birong, the president of the Sports Health Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, interprets the contemporary significance of sarcopenia prevention and treatment in the "Muscle bank" and the new global evidence of exercise intervention. Director Wu Jing of the Chronic Disease Center of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed the investigation of elderly disability and chronic diseases and interpreted relevant policies at home and abroad. President Liu Xuejun of the Shanxi Geriatrics Society has proposed a new idea of promoting the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia through the integration of sports and medicine. Concurrent meeting: Improve the standard mechanism to consolidate the work foundation

The conference will be held concurrently with the first expanded standing committee meeting of the Sports Health Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society in 2025, the expert discussion meeting on the standards of "Construction Specifications for Sarcopenia Prevention and Control Network Units" and "Evaluation Specifications for Physical Activity Capacity of the Elderly", and the first joint meeting of sarcopenia Prevention and control network units.
